[avatar] the heat has warped my brain

Jul. 15th, 2008 | 02:26 pm

Hey f-list, why isn't anybody talking about the fact that this week is Avatar Finale Week? I think my brother mentioned it to me, but in the move and the exhaustion, I thought the show was just on Friday, not every single day this week.

Good thing I haven't missed any important episodes yet, *cough*

[avatar] movie news

Apr. 16th, 2008 | 01:05 am

Writer/director M. Night Shyamalan will definitely be following up his June blockbuster contender, The Happening, with Paramount’s adaptation of the hit Nicktoons series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The ambitious live-action film is now due on July 2, 2010. Variety reported just minutes ago that the film’s title has been officially shortened to The Last Airbender, thus avoiding the 3D death ray of James Cameron’s AVATAR. [Source]

[tv] "Sleep eating is a very serious and delicious medical condition!"

Nov. 20th, 2007 | 10:32 am

I don't know who actually pushed me to watching this show -- I think it was, oddly enough, my brother who kept quoting Barney-isms... and out of curiosity, I checked it out.

Now, it's become one of the shows that I really look forward to every week. Between this, and "Heroes," and Bourdain's show on Travel Channel (if it's an interesting location, anyway), Monday is my must-see TV day.

I'm tempted to get the first 2 seasons on DVD since I only started watching this year.

Barney as Borat for Halloween had me laughing like a crazy person for minutes.

P.S. Avatar 3x10 and 3x11 were so "OMG," (to quote [info]lampbane). However, I think I need a rewatch when they actually air on US tv so I'll save my comments till then.

but Sokka beat me to it.

By the by, has anybody made a bestiary list for the "Avatar"-universe? That would be a kickass project.

Gah, what a great episode all around. I don't think this show's ever disappointed me, ever.

[avatar] the resemblance

Oct. 18th, 2007 | 07:08 pm

Seeing the latest clip of this week's Avatar episode and seeing Zuko's new hairstyle, I really think that if somebody switched him with Shuri, nobody would've noticed.

Observe:
1. Preference for red clothing
2. Transition of hairstyle, from bald to (mullet?) long
3. General arrogance and swagger
4. Temper
5. Rejection by father figures

And the list goes on.

I should go sleep now.

"My cranky girlfriend..." HAHAHAHA. Zuko, I love you.

[tv] fun catch-up time

Oct. 18th, 2007 | 01:01 pm

Missed a few of my favorite shows when I was on vacation. Thank you to the magic of the internet, otherwise I would have needed to wait for re-runs or for the DVD releases.

Minor spoilers. I don't think I ruin anything -too- much, but if I did, whine away.

Heroes: I thought that the storyline of the twins would be interesting, but actually, I think it's somewhat dull. Maja trips out, Alejandro has to save her, blah blah. Zzz.

Peter's adventures in Ireland -have- been awesome to watch though. Admittedly, I think Peter has always been one of my favorite characters, but I think that being away by himself and trying to figure out his powers without the angst has been good for him. He's actually enjoying it at times, you notice!!

Claire's boyfriend is creepy. Attractive and charming in the same way that serial killers and stalkers could be. Listen to Daddy, Claire!

I wonder if they'll make a Sylar as Spock reference. Hiro would have such a field day over that, I'd bet. (Zachary Quinto is actually such an cutie, btw).

Avatar: "Painted Lady" was predictable. Next.

"Sokka's Master," on the other hand, kicked so much ass that I still hear people wincing. Between Uncle Iroh's stealth training, and Sokka's sweaty teenage manliness, it was like the Avatar Beefcake episode.

And Toph! Oh, you cute cute thing.

This Friday's episode: "The Beach." Wow, I didn't realize American cartoons did the "onsen" episode as well -- "Zuko, Azula, Mai and Ty Lee go on vacation at Lo and Li's beach house, where they learn a lot about themselves and each other. Meanwhile, the kids face a new enemy."

No need to wait till Friday -- even though I'm sure I'll watch this again on TV, just to be OCD.

[tv] smallish pet peeve

Sep. 24th, 2007 | 02:14 pm

Okay, I actually know the answer to the question that I have below: it's because TV execs are trying to milk as much eyeball time as they possibly can out of their properties.

But still, WHY IS WATCHING TV SUCH A COMPLICATED PROCESS NOW?

Take two of my fave shows, for instance.

The first episode of Avatar S3 came out on Friday. Woohoo. But while they explain a few things of what happened in the interim between seasons, a greater portion of the story is explained in comics featured in the Nickelodeon special Avatar issue. Important plot points (ZUKO! IROH!) are answered in the magazine that a person only watching the show wouldn't have found out till much later or not at all.

And the same thing with Heroes -- I didn't know that there was a "documentary" about Takezo Kensei that is up on the Yamagato Foundation web site. I thought the information that I linked to in my previous post was such a spoiler but apparently, if you've been obsessively keeping up on all of the updates on all of the Heroes-related sites, you'd have known the big spoiler about Takezo's identity.

Basically, I think that it's not fair that in order to "get" the entire story for many of these shows, the audience is now required to be obsessive fanboys/fangirls, mining out related websites and magazines and books. (Granted, I know most of my flist are obsessive fen but I'd like to think that there are exceptions...) I personally hate missing out on the complete story, and if I wasn't even aware of the existence of the other supplementary material, then some items that I thought were unanswered actually -do- have explanations.

[misc] definition of a perfect day

Sep. 21st, 2007 | 10:50 pm

Laid-back work day. Check.
Kickass boots for $60. Check.
Two awesome dresses. Check and check.
New "Avatar" episode that totally gave me goosebumps the whole time I was watching it. Check.

To paraphrase Sokka, sometimes the universe doesn't hate me.

(Spoilers in comments, kids.)
