[weekend] that went by fast

Oct. 6th, 2008 | 11:59 am

Did a lot of odd shopping trips this weekend. It started on Friday, when I got something for M. for Friday. (Aaaa! Two years!) Then Saturday, headed over to the Brooklyn Trader Joe's, as I had been wanting to do. It's spacious and remarkably not crowded for a Saturday am. Sunday was Ikea, which was crowded, but hey, I got cookies and new vases out of it, so it wasn't totally awful.

Also finished the Antique Bakery anime in a remarkable 3 days. I haven't done that in AGES. I guess it's partially because I do know the story so I wasn't expecting to be frustrated afterwards, and partially because I do like listening to Mamo-chan. ♥ I'm glad to finish it though, even if only because I genuinely like that story a lot. Then I'm following it up with Natsume Yuujinchou, and maybe even finishing up Macross F?

Oh, I also watched the first DVD of Pushing Daisies S1. (Man, I really DID watch a lot of stuff this weekend.) I enjoyed it, and I'm glad that I waited till it came out on DVD to see it. I think the format of the show is best when you're watching it as many parts of one long 'movie.' Admittedly, it is quirky, there's no two ways around describing it as that, but I like how the show's main focus isn't getting the main couple in bed... because we all know what happens if they do that, right? And I don't really think necrophilia is the whole point of this show.

Don't know if I like the fact that Soul seems to be crawling out of the scythe blade...also, for that price, yeesh.

[rxj] i'm so predictable

Sep. 25th, 2007 | 11:19 pm

It took me a while, but I finally know what I'm going to seek out in JP when I get there.

First press of DVD 2 (featuring Kurogane and Fai Curio and Francisco)

Actually, all of the first press covers look pretty hot...

P.S. Could Gonzo have tried harder on their seiyuu casting? I mean, I could tell which characters are voiced by Fujiwara and Okiayu even before they started talking (it was kinda obvious, it was the characters that look like Hughes and Roy, respectively).

[misc] definition of a perfect day

Sep. 21st, 2007 | 10:50 pm

Laid-back work day. Check.
Kickass boots for $60. Check.
Two awesome dresses. Check and check.
New "Avatar" episode that totally gave me goosebumps the whole time I was watching it. Check.

To paraphrase Sokka, sometimes the universe doesn't hate me.

(Spoilers in comments, kids.)

[random] dear internet, stop being so amusing

Sep. 5th, 2007 | 04:33 pm

♣ Not the biggest fan of jewelry personally, even though I wear the occassional piece here and there, but these origami pieces would probably be worth their price just as a conversation piece to a party.

♣ In senior year of college, Dr. Rob not-so subtly prodded me to go to grad school and study literature instead of heading off to work straight after graduation. In my travels, I stumbled across UCLA's suggested reading list for grad students in Asian-American literature... and I cannot help but wonder...

And then a few seconds soon after, I remember that I'm practical. And the most common career track available to someone with a PhD in Asian-American Literature is to teach Asian-Am lit. I didn't want to teach then, and I still don't now.

I also didn't think that I wanted to go and ever study accounting ever, but here I am studying for the GMAT that I'm planning to take in November

♣ Okay, note to self: do not go to any zoos in any of the former Soviet states. Bears (or lions) may just escape randomly and eat you.

[$$] why, hello there sexy

Dec. 28th, 2006 | 11:49 am

You know you're becoming old when you start seeing kitchen appliances as hot.

BUT...BUT... just look at it and tell me you don't think that's beautiful.

Another sign of age: when you no longer balk when your boyfriend asks you to cook for him. But that's another story.

[code geass] thoughts from the creators

Nov. 7th, 2006 | 10:27 am

I wish more fandoms would have people translating what shows up on the official sites. I like knowing about fun stuff like [this]:
By the way, Director Taniguchi thinks of Suzaku as a "Go to karaoke with everyone, sit by the door, order the drinks and listen to the baseball news on the phone" person, while Lelouch's is the "Karaoke? No way. Probably not" type.

Thanks for the translation, [info]verity_isle!

Maybe I should've bought that copy of Asuka with Suzaku and Lelouch on the cover last night...

--

Book-off haul: Nodame Cantabile 1-2 in English (score!), Demon Seiten 2-4 (double score!)
Asahiya: latest issue of PASH! with a 4-page spread of MAMO-CHAN.

My boyfriend, bless him, doesn't even make that face anymore when I go all ♥ ♥ ♥ about Mamo-chan. And that's why I think I'll keep him around for a while -- the boyfriend, not Mamo-chan. o_O;

Though I have immense envy for [info]passivesoul's copy of the December Wings. The Rain & Zol COLORED picture was BEAUTIFUL.

And this week's manga releases are out for me:

!!!!!!IMMORTAL RAIN 7
Die Todliche Dolis
Elemental Gelade 2
Trinity Blood 1
Princess Princess 1
Beauty is the Beast 5
Black Cat 5
Death Note 8
Fushigi Yugi Genbu Kaiden 5
Hikaru no Go 8
Godchild 3

Ah, the pain of being such a manga fangirl.

[cg] the merchandise machine starts anew

Oct. 19th, 2006 | 09:35 am

So, the first-press of "COLORS," the OP of Code Geass apparently has all these goodies and wouldn't you know it, CDJapan is sold out already. But I really wanted to have Lelouch's school ID!!

I guess my self-imposed abstinence from Nick is going to end in a bit.

Not to mention that the November anime mags need to be bought (Code Geass on NT!), and also the 2nd Caractere Guide with the KuroFaiSyao boyband cover. *sob*

EDIT1: Yumichika actually looks manly in this image... and Renji. Guh. Tries to hard to be gangsta but we all know he's nothing but a big dork. I'm just curious why there's ton of Shiro-kun fanservice and zero of Mr. Sexpants (aka Ishida). Whatever. I guess J-fangirls like their shouta far too much.

[jyu-oh-sei] zagi in all his sexiness

Sep. 28th, 2006 | 11:08 am

DVD 3 arrived today! BUT DVD 2 is still MIA!? WTF. So I get Zagi before Third? They said to wait up to 8 weeks for airmail, but if I don't get Third by next payday, I'm ordering myself another copy.

The Fangirl Apt. of Doom needs an R2 player STAT. 'Cause I mean, the LOVE COM movie with English subtitles needs to be watched. Teppei in all his cuteness will be so worth the money.

And if my roommate does get the Titus Andronicus DVD (with Shun) as she threatens to do, it'll be cute Japanese boy heaven...!
